The Near South Neighborhood Association is AGAINST the zone change request that would allow grocery stores to sell alcohol, even if they are within 100 feet of a residence, school, church, or mental health facility.
Currently, businesses must be 100 feet away from residences, schools, churches, and mental health facilities in order to sell alcohol to be consumed off site.
By making an exception for grocery stores, we open up a slippery slope to other community service providers like pharmacies and convenience stores. If exceptions are made for one group, others will follow. Exceptions weaken the point of the law.
If you’d like to read more on our stance, we have attached some more detailed questions/answers, as well as the Near South Neighborhood Association’s letter to our elected officials.
