We have always been drawn to the Near South Neighborhood, its historic homes and proximity to restaurants are very appealing to us. Many (many) years ago, while in college at UNL we dreamed of living in a stately old Victorian in the area. To us the new cookie cutter homes and even the high-end custom homes just do not measure up to the historic homes in the Near South area. We had been hunting for the right home in the area for more than two years before 1840 E Street hit the market. As soon as we toured the home, we knew it was the house for us. We were drawn to the original intricate woodwork, beautiful quarter sawn oak floors, and the curb presence of the home. Unfortunately, through the years many beautiful features of the home had been buried with paint or had been left in disrepair. We have spent the last 2+ years working to rehabilitate the exterior of the home, restore the original windows, and bring the interior back to its former glory. One of our greatest accomplishments has been stripping the many layers of paint and restoring all the original woodwork in the house including the detailed trim, pocket doors, and hand carved fireplaces mantles. It has been amazing to see the house transform to what it once was and marvel at the craftsmanship of the original home builders. Over the next year we hope to complete the exterior rehabilitation and begin landscaping the yard.
