Rachel Carmicheal’s Home
2600 C Street
As I look at my view from my front porch with my feet up on the banister and my dog perched alongside, I am reminded of why I chose this house. I do at times have to remind myself why I chose to embark on an endeavor that feels at times too much to handle. With cracked plaster walls and ceilings throughout the house, a kitchen with carpet on the walls, and bedrooms with tile glued to hard wood floors, we are never without a project. Why, might you ask would we want a home in this condition? In a single word, wood. The oak flooring, French doors, and beautiful front entry, which luckily after 100 years of existence have never been painted. The wood called my name.
This view I mentioned has some of the most beautiful homes in the neighborhood, people that know our names, and mature trees with leaves that change to striking shades in the fall. Being in the Near South Neighborhood, my family and I are able to bike downtown, take a stroll through the Sunken Gardens, and walk to Lincoln’s first high school. We’re thankful to be so close to the heart of the city and for the opportunity to invest in the house and neighborhood we call home.
