A glorious summer winds down, it’s a great time to take a walk

Near South neighbors enjoyed a great summer. Thanks to Mother Nature, Lincoln’s drought is over. Even though we are one of the smallest neighborhoods in Lincoln, we are blessed with seven parks: Breta, Hazel Abel, Near South, Peach, Prescott, and “pocket parks” Maple Lodge and 27th & South.

This makes Near South a great place to walk, and NSNA has resources to help you choose a path. Walking the Near South books (in three volumes) are available at A Novel Idea, Francie & Finch, or contact us and we will deliver right to your door. Only $10 a piece!

“One neighbor has the largest tomatoes I have ever seen. Another garden gives a glimpse of glorious Calla Lilies and brilliant red Cannas. Over there you will see a huge patch of friendly Daisies. And I am especially jealous of anyone who has Poppies. I cannot for the life of me, grow the darn things. I would love to know the secret. Lavender, basil, mint, and chives. I learned the hard way to keep any mint contained or it will overcome your whole yard. Chives too. To my delight, our cats love to sleep in the chive patch. I have asked them why but they’ve yet to answer, “ Commented NSNA Secretary Chathy Wilken.
