Art in the Sunken Garden set for September 14

The Near South Neighborhood Association is partnering with Clements Noyes Art Gallery to help publicize and volunteer at the event. Volunteer jobs include helping artists set up their booths in the morning, greeting attendees, distributing water to artists, booth-sitting while artists take breaks, and helping artists tear down at the end of the day. Anyone interested can call the Sandie Caradori at (402) 450-8109. Volunteers can contribute as much time as they wish, whether an hour or two or the duration of the event.

There will be informational meetings for volunteers on August 31st and September 7th, both of which will take place at 5:30 pm in the Sunken Gardens dome. The same information will be shared at both meetings, so volunteers only need to attend one.

This is the 12th consecutive year, Art in the Garden will take place at Lincoln’s Sunken Gardens, located on the southwest corner of 27th and D streets. The 2024 event is Clements Noyes’ first, and it’s set for 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 14, rain or shine.

New gallery owner Dana Clements is excited about this year’s event. “A goal of the gallery has always been to engage with the community. Art in the Garden is my favorite event we organize because it gives us an opportunity to do so.” She adds, “Year after year, the event has proven to be a positive experience for artists and attendees alike.”

This year’s theme, Golden Hour, which describes the golden red light after sunrise and before sunset, will be reflected in the garden and some of the artwork.

Attendees can also enjoy live musical performances by local artists, including:  Ryan Bates, Arnie Heitoff, Jack Zeleny, Courteney Turner with her hurdy gurdy, and Charlie Horner with High Street Irish musicians. Dance groups will also perform, including Lois Rood & dancers and Jewel in the Lotus troupe.

Art in the Garden is a free community event with free parking across the street at the zoo and in the near South neighborhood. Enjoy the original art and support the art community.  If you get hungry, take advantage of the participating food vendors while you listen to live music and watch dancers perform.
